HBO's fall pay-per-view boxing schedule took a hit Monday when it’s Sept. 15 Juan Manuel Marquez-Rocky Juarez super featherweight championship fight was cancelled.
According to HBO WBC featherweight champion Marquez experienced severe swelling on his right hand due to an infection caused by a cut suffered during training, forcing the fight’s cancellation.
“The safety of our fighters comes first and it’s too bad that Juan Manuel got hurt after training so hard for this fight,” said Oscar de la Hoya, president of. Golden Boy Promotions, which was promoting the event.
HBO still has three PPV fights scheduled for the remainder of the year, including the Oct. 6 Manny Pacquiao-Barrera bout; a Nov. 10 welterweight title fight between Miguel Cotto and Sugar Shane Mosley; and a Dec. 8 welterweight title fight between champion Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton
