HBO has elevated Tom Woodbury general counsel and executive vice president, networks business affairs.
A 27-year veteran at the premium programmer, Woodbury, reporting directly to HBO chairman CEO Bill Nelson, will serve as HBO’s chief legal officer on all legal matters pertaining to the company, and as chief legal liaison to Time Warner.
Woodbury's ascension comes a little more than a week after Home Box Office co-president and general counsel Harold Akselrad announced that he was leaving the pay service to pursue other personal interests after 25 years with the company.
“Tom is highly regarded within HBO, Time Warner and the industry at large. All of us who have worked with Tom at HBO value his depth of knowledge, intelligence, and expertise as well as his long-standing, close-working relationships with our distributors,” said Nelson. “In his new position, he will be instrumental in making sure that the rights necessary to maintain and grow our business are protected.”
In addition to his role as general counsel, Woodbury will retain oversight for business affairs matters pertaining to affiliate sales, international and technology operations, areas that he has been responsible for since 2004 when he was named executive vice president, business affairs and legal, sales and network operations.
