HBO Garners Eight NAMIC Vision Awards Nominations

HBO leads a list of 27 networks nominated for 2010 NAMIC Vision Awards, the diversity organization announced Wednesday.
HBO garnered eight nominations for NAMIC Vision Awards, which honor original, multi-ethnic and cross-cultural television programming that best reflects the diversity of the global viewing audience. The NAMIC Vision Awards will be presented at a luncheon ceremony scheduled for April 22 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.

HBO's nominations include two for the pay channel's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, which received a nod in the Drama category and a Best Performance Drama nomination for actor and recording artist, Jill Scott. HBO also received a nod in the drama category for actor Russell Hornsby's performance in the network's drama series In Treatment. Hornsby also garnered a best drama nod for his starring role on ABC Family's Lincoln Heights. Hornsby is the first actor in NAMIC Vision Awards history to receive multiple nominations in a single performance category.

CNN, BET Networks and ESPN garnered five award nominations each, while Nickelodeon drew four nods and ABC Family, Discovery en Espanol, Lifetime Television, MTV Networks, and NBC/Universal Media Studios all netted three nominations.
"The television viewing audience is becoming more ethnically and culturally diverse," said Marco Williams, vice president, Affiliate Marketing, The Africa Channel and president, NAMIC-Southern California in a statement. "NAMIC is proud to continue recognizing those entities that remain committed to producing original content across all digital entertainment platforms that accurately reflects the full spectrum of our world's populace."
