HBO Promotes Strauss, Nevins

Home Box Office has promoted two of its longtime veterans to presidents of their respective programming domains.

Carolyn Strauss -- who has been with the premium programmer since 1986 and most recently was serving as executive vice president, original programming -- is now president, HBO Entertainment.

Strauss is responsible for overseeing the development and production of series, miniseries, specials and late-night fare, and she has helped to spearhead The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Ali G, Def Comedy Jam, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Six Feet Under, among many others.

Sheila Nevins -- who joined HBO in 1979 and had been working as executive VP of original programming -- is now president, HBO Documentary and Family.

Nevins oversees the development and production of all documentaries and family programming for HBO, Cinemax and their multiplexes. She has worked on projects that have captured 18 primetime Emmy Awards, 32, News and Documentary Emmys and 18 Peabody awards, and she has been the executive producer on one-dozen Academy Award-winning documentaries, including Murder on a Sunday Morning and King Gimp.
