HBO Secures Rights To 'Moms Mabley' Documentary

Whoppi Goldberg-produced Doc To Focus On Iconic African-American Comedian

HBO will profile iconic stand-up comedienne Moms Mabley in a documentary produced by Whoopi Goldberg, the network announced Thursday.

The pay TV network acquired the broadcast and home video rights to Moms Mabley: I Got Somethin’ To Tell You, a feature-length documentary about the life of African-American stand-up comedienne Jackie “Moms” Mabley that will have its world premiere at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival this Saturday, according to HBO officials.

The documentary will feature recently unearthed photography and rediscovered performance footage of the comedianne, as well as interviews with numerous celebrated comedians, entertainers and historians including Eddie Murphy, Joan Rivers, Sidney Poitier, Kathy Griffin, Harry Belafonte, Bill Cosby, Quincy Jones, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, according to the network.
