Home Box Office said Tuesday that it would back its original programming
related to Black History Month with a campaign called 'Journey to Today.'

Two HBO Films productions will debut in February to help commemorate Black
History Month.

The Middle Passage deals with the horrors of the trans-Atlantic slave
trade, and Lumumba tells the story of Patrice Lumumba, a controversial
leader of the Congo.

'Our goal is to present programming that not only explores the historical
relationship between Africa and America, but is also reflective of the
African-American culture today,' HBO senior vice president of subscriber
marketing and business development Olivia Smashum said in a press release.

In addition to the HBO Films productions, HBO is also premiering next month
Janet Jackson: In Concert from Hawaii and Jamie Foxx: I Might Need
Security
.

To help promote the programming, HBO will run a consumer sweepstakes in
February, asking viewers to answer trivia questions in exchange for a chance to
win a trip to the African continent.
