HBO Sets HDTV Launch


New York -- Home Box Office will launch its initial
high-definition television consumer service will with the movie U.S. Marshals March
6 at 8 p.m.

Initially, the audience for the HDTV feed is likely to be
slim: Direct-broadcast satellite operators U.S. Satellite Broadcasting and EchoStar
Communications Corp. had committed to carrying HBO HDTV, but their launch schedules have
not been determined.

A spokeswoman for USSB said no announcement is expected on
an HDTV launch until USSB is handed over to DirecTV Inc. as part of a previously announced

According to an HBO spokeswoman, HBO had not yet received
formal commitments from any cable operators to carry the HDTV feed.
