HBO, Showtime, AMCLead Globe, SAG Nods

New York — HBO received 12
Golden Globe Award nominations on
Dec. 14, leading all TV networks, while
Showtime picked up eight (all for series)
and AMC led basic-cable networks
with five.

Two days later, HBO picked up nine
nominations for Screen Actors Guild
Awards, while AMC received four nominations
to lead cable programmers.

Among the Golden Globe entries, a
notable inclusion was Starz’s miniseries
Pillars of the Earth, which earned
the premium programmer its first three
nominations.

AMC’s nominations were for Mad
Men
(three), Breaking Bad (one) and The
Walking Dead
(one). Bryan Cranston,
after three consecutive Emmy wins, for
the lead role in Breaking Bad, received
his first Golden Globe nod.

Sundance Channel had two nominations
for miniseries Carlos.

TV Land made news with its first
two SAG Award nominations, for Hot
in Cleveland:
ensemble in a comedy series
and comedy actress (Betty White).

HBO’s nine SAG Award nominations
include two for original series Boardwalk
Empire
, which drew a best drama
series nomination and a best-actor nod
for Steve Buscemi. The series vies with
TNT’s The Closer, Showtime’s Dexter,
CBS’s The Good Wife and two-time defending
SAG category champ Mad Men
for top drama series.

The Golden Globe Awards ceremony
airs Jan. 16 on NBC; the SAG Awards
ceremony, live on TNT and TBS, is on
Jan. 30.
