HBO Taking Offers for The Sopranos

Home Box Office was evidently still having sit-downs Friday about which network would acquire basic-cable syndication rights to The Sopranos.

At press time, sources said no final call had been made about whether the mob drama was headed to sister service Turner Network Television or to A&E Network.

Other contenders -- including USA Network, Spike TV, FX and Lifetime Television -- were apparently rubbed out.

The record syndication price tag under discussion is said to be more than $2 million for each of 78 installments, covering six seasons, including next year’s finale. However, sources suggested that HBO may be trying to convince series creator David Chase to add fresh installments beyond 2006.

HBO declined to comment.
