Home Box Office has approved a second season of Project
The series -- about the making of a feature film written and directed by the
winner of an online script contest -- premiered last fall to rave reviews and
was nominated for a Emmy Award last month. The series attracted some 1.9 million
households and 2.7 million viewers on average for its 12 premiere
This time around, the episodes will team up winners of separate writing and
directing contests to make the same film, which -- like the first one, Stolen
Summer -- will be released theatrically by The Walt Disney Co. subsidiary
Stolen Summer received poor reviews when it premiered earlier this year,
and it only made $134,000 at the box office.
Miramax will launch the writer/director online contests Sept. 19, with
entries due Oct. 2. The winners will be selected at the Sundance Film Festival
in January in Utah, and what transpires from there will be carried on HBO that
With the new-season pact, HBO also announced the availability of a
first-season Greenlight DVD box set Sept. 24, containing Stolen
Summer and additional commentary.
