Following its deal with Spike TV last week, the Champ Car World Series has kicked it into high-definition gear.

The racing series announced Tuesday that HDNet will be the exclusive home of live HDTV telecasts of the 2004 Champ Car World Series.

HDNet’s coverage starts with the season-opening Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach (Calif.) April 18.

"HDNet is thrilled to add Champ Car racing to our network," HDNet cofounder and president Mark Cuban said in a prepared statement. "Thanks to the incredible picture and sound quality, our audience will feel the excitement in every turn and experience every pit stop like they were there."

Spike TV said last Wednesday that it will carry all 16 2004 Champ Car races, also kicking off with the Toyota Grand Prix.
