Wegener Corp. said Mark Cuban's HDNet is ordering its "Unity" integrated
receiver/decoders and "Compel" network-control system for its high-definition-TV
HDNet and sister service HDNet Movies will use Wegener's "Unity4422" IRD at
cable headends. An HDNet executive said the equipment will make it easier for
the programmer to handle regional blackouts of sporting events.
In related HD news, The Yankee Group predicted that 46.8 million homes --
nearly one-half of the United States -- will have HDTV monitors by 2007, and
41.6 million will be receiving HD programming.
It expects MSOs to have 50 percent market share, compared with 41 percent for
direct-broadcast satellite and 9 percent over the air.
