HDNet will air the third annual Visual Effects Society Awards Thursday, May 19 at 9 p.m. (EST).

The VES Awards recognize outstanding visual effects in 19 categories of film, television, commercials, music videos and games, and the event will feature HD presentations of the winning effects, as well a sneak peek into the secrets behind how the effects were conceived and created.

Tom Hanks will present the “VES Lifetime Career Achievement Award” to Academy Award-winning director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Romancing the Stone, the Back to the Future trilogy, Cast Away and The Polar Express), and Zemeckis and Hanks will join HDNet host Jessica Corbin for an exclusive interview about their experiences working together.

"In an age where digital advances are impacting both movies and television in so many ways, we think it is a perfect fit for HDNet to be the exclusive telecaster of the Visual Effects Society Awards," HDNet chairman Mark Cuban said in a prepared statement.
