HDTV Hits 99 of Top 100 Markets

The National Cable & Telecommunications Association announced that cable-delivered HDTV service is available in 99 of the top 100 U.S. TV markets, which translates to 84 million of the country's 108 million homes having HD service available.

"The full-scale deployment of HD service and programming has been the most rapid rollout of any product launched by the cable industry," NCTA CEO Robert Sachs said in a prepared statement.

The NCTA said 15 cable networks now offer HDTV service, with TNT-HD slated for launch in May.

The trade group added that cable operators are carrying 382 local digital-broadcast signals.
