Los Angeles -- Jim Henson Television Group last week namedMargaret Loesch to the newly created position of president, where she will be responsiblefor the creation of a soon-to-be-announced general-entertainment cable channel. Loesch wasmost recently vice chairman of Fox Kids Worldwide, which she joined in 1990 as foundingpresident of Fox Kids Network.
In addition to being responsible for all of Henson'stelevision development, production and distribution, Loesch will oversee its planned cablechannel. A Henson spokeswoman said it was premature to discuss many details of thechannel, other than the fact that it is expected to launch in 18 to 24 months and that itwill target the family market. Loesch couldn't be reached for comment.
Jim Henson Television Group isn't the only kids'programming producer to plan a cable channel: Roughly three years ago, Children'sTelevision Workshop, which produces Sesame Street, said it would roll out achildren's educational channel. The network still hasn't launched.
