Herndon, Va.-Road Runner, projecting a million customers by late summer, added 180,000 subscribers in the first quarter. That pushed the data-over-cable service's subscriber count beyond 730,000. Road Runner service passes 15.6 million homes.
Road Runner launched in several new markets, including Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn.; Waco, Texas and Western Ohio. It also increased penetration in existing neighborhoods. The top penetration, 25 percent, is in Time Warner Cable's Portland, Maine, operation, an early-launch market. Penetration is above 10 percent in Binghamton, N.Y. (Time Warner), and Newfoundland, Canada (Cable Atlantic). In San Diego (Time Warner), the penetration is close to 14 percent.
Road Runner is owned by affiliates of Time Warner Inc., MediaOne Group Inc., Microsoft Corp., Compaq Corp. and Advance/Newhouse.
