The Hatfields And The McCoys' legendary family feud will be the subject of a new scripted miniseries from History, the network announced Tuesday.
The series, slated for 2012, coincides with the 150th anniversary of the infamous feud and will star Academy Award winner Kevin Costner, who will also serve as producing partner with production company Thinkfactory Media. The Hatfield And The McCoys will chronicle the bloody hostilities between the two clans that escalated to the point of near war between two states, according to the network.
"The Hatfields and The McCoys is a classic tale of American history. These are names that are widely recognized, yet few people know the real story that made them famous. We are thrilled that Kevin Costner, one of the most iconic American actors of our time, will be starring as Devil," said History president & general manager Nancy Dubuc in a statement. "At History, part of our legacy - and indeed one of the reasons we are enjoying such great success right now - is our ability to look at the many stories of history through a contemporary lens."
The series marks the second scripted project the network announce Tuesday. Earlier the network said it would team with reality series producer Mark Burnett to produce the five-part series, The Bible.
