¡Hola! TV to Launch as Pay Channel in U.S., Latin America

Madrid, Spain-based Atresmedia said it will launch ¡Hola! TV, a celebrity and lifestyle pay TV channel, in the U.S. and Latin America.

¡Hola! TV is a partnership with venerable gossip and high-society magazine ¡Hola!, which publishes dozens of editions worldwide. Terms were not disclosed.

According to a company statement, ¡Hola! TV will originate from the Miami studios of Imagina US. Like the print magazine, it will cover the life and style of celebrities, the super-rich and European royalty.

“The launch of ¡Hola! TV represents an extraordinary opportunity to expand the ¡Hola! brand and is a natural next step in our mission to deliver across multiple platforms,” Eduardo Sánchez Pérez, editor in chief and general manager of ¡Hola!, said.

Neither ¡Hola! nor Atresmedia have said when a U.S. launch will take place, except that it will occur “in the coming weeks.” The 24-hour channel is expected to draw content from the magazine’s several Latin American edition. The magazine also has a Spanish-language online edition in the U.S.

Leading the television venture is Ignacio Sanz de Acedo, a former executive with E! and Discovery Networks, who has been appointed CEO and general manager. Sanz de Acedo will report directly to the board of ¡Hola! TV in Spain.
