The House Judiciary Committee failed Wednesday to pass an extension of the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act because the panel used nearly all of its time to consider a gun bill.
Millions of satellite subscribers will lose access to distant feeds of ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox unless new legislation is passed by Dec. 31.
“We didn’t get to it. We had a gun bill that took two hours. By that time, it was 1 p.m., and we were done,” Judiciary Committee spokesman Jeff Lungren said.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on SHVIA legislation Thursday.
Lungren said the House committee would likely take the measure up next week.
“The chairman indicated that there would be a markup next week, so I would assume SHVIA would be on that agenda,” Lungren said.
