The House Telecommunications Subcommittee is planning to stage a hearing
March 15 on the digital-television transition with an emphasis on the views of
private industry.

The hearing is scheduled to occur two weeks after a similar hearing by the
Senate Commerce Committee. Insight Communications Co. Inc. president and CEO
Michael Willner is expected to testify for the cable industry at Thursday's
Senate hearing.

The House panel, headed by Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.), also announced
Wednesday that it has invited Federal Communications Commission chairman Michael
Powell to testify March 29 on his plans to reform the agency.

In recent speeches and press conferences, Powell has stressed that he wants
to restructure the agency to perform more efficiently and to sharpen its
expertise in the areas of engineering, innovation and
technology.
