Huge German Cable Deal Is Off

Kabel Deutschland GmbH said Wednesday that it has withdrawn its application to take over fellow German cable operators Ish, KabelBW and Iesy, AP reported.

The country’s largest MSO said it pulled out due to "repeated negative signals from the Federal Cartel Office," which threatened last month to block the acquisition on the grounds that it would strengthen KDG's dominant market position, according to AP.

KDG -- which is owned by The Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Apax Partners and Providence Equity Partners Inc. -- has 10 million subscribers, and the 2.7 billion euro ($3.3 billion) deal would have added more than another 7 million.
