Insight Communications Co. Inc. said it will deploy Motorola Broadband Communications Sector's "DCT6208" combination HDTV/digital-video-recorder set-top beginning in December.
The HDTV/DVR will be launched in Anderson, Lafayette, Kokomo, Evansville and Bloomington, Ind.; Louisville, Lexington and Covington, Ky.; Columbus, Ohio; and Rockford, Peoria, Springfield and Champaign/Urbana, Ill.
Insight CEO Michael Willner said in a prepared statement, "As DVR and HDTV demand continue to rise, this solution will deliver even further value to our interactive platform."
The MSO will price the HDTV/DVR as a $12.95-per-month package inside its digital offering, which is $5 more than its standard digital-gateway service.
The DVR will feature an 80-gigabyte hard drive and provide up to 60 hours of standard-definition and 10 hours of HDTV recording.
In related news, Insight signed a distribution and licensing agreement with Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. Gemstar said it will supply Insight with its most advanced interactive guide, which will support video-on-demand, HDTV and DVR functionality.
As part of the deal, Gemstar will acquire a nonexclusive license for the interactive-programming-guide technology of "SourceSuite," which Insight owns. And Insight has the option to integrate its "LocalSource" product into TV Guide Interactive.
