Insight Communications Co. Inc. will grab hold of Arris' "Touchstone" cable
modems for its high-speed-data business.
Insight has placed an order for "Touchstone CM 300" modems, which can deliver
tiered data services. The modems will be deployed throughout Insight's systems
in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
It extends a longstanding relationship between Arris and the MSO, which has
used "Cornerstone" transmission gear and telephony products for some time.
The CM 300 is Arris' first indoor, data-only modem developed for the
Cornerstone product line, which also includes telephony products and outdoor,
side-of-home access devices.
The modem is Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 1.1-certified,
and it sports advanced time-division multiple-access technology to potentially
increase bandwidth efficiency in the upstream path.
"Additionally, the Arris modem supports a bridged USB [universal serial bus]
and Ethernet interface, which allows two PCs to use the same modem without any
additional home-networking equipment," said Charlie Dietz, Insight's senior vice
president and chief technology officer, in a release.
