The Inspiration Networks last week signed a deal to distribute La Familia Network — a 24-hour, family-oriented Hispanic channel — to cable operators.
La Familia has been market-tested for more than three years on low-power broadcast stations across Texas.
"Cable operators have told us there is absence of good, solid, family-values programming" for the Hispanic market, said Inspiration vice president of affiliate sales Tom Holman.
The company plans a wide range of original content, including talk, sports, concerts, cooking, lifestyle and educational shows, Holman said.
"We hope this will be an inducement for some Hispanic households to get cable," said Inspiration vice president of marketing John Roos. "We can help operators get digital into more households."
The network will offer local ad avails to affiliates, the company said.
Although the network will continue to produce much of its programming in Texas, it will be based in Charlotte.
