INSP Names Gary Wheeler VP of Original Movies

Following its announcement earlier this week that it is establishing an original productions division, cable network INSP has named producer Gary Wheeler its new vice president of original movies.

Wheeler will lead the creation of original features to premiere exclusively on INSP, with the first wave of films scheduled to debut in the third quarter. Doug Butts, senior vice president of programming, made the announcement, saying Wheeler's "vision for future films aligns perfectly with INSP’s brand of wholesome entertainment." INSP had revealed on Tuesday (Feb. 17) that it was establishing the new originals unit.

"The development and production of original movies is something INSP has been excited about for some time," Butts said. "We are thrilled that someone of his stature and experience will oversee our film division.”

Based in North Carolina and the founder of Level Path Productions, Wheeler is a multi-award winning film writer, director and producer known for making films with Christian themes, with more than a dozen domestic and interational features and telefilms in his portfolio. Recent projects include the Emmy-nominated The Heart of Christmas, based on a opular song by Matthew West; The Trial, starring Matthew Modine; and My Dad's a Soccer Mom.

INSP is available in more than 80 million U.S. households via more than 2,800 cable systems, as well as Dish Network, DirecTV, Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse.
