Invidi Technologies and Cablevision Systems said Tuesday they have reached an agreement to mutually dismiss their claims against each other in litigation centered on an Invidi patent involving the delivery of addressable advertising.
Tied in, the companies said they’ve reached a “business resolution” whereby Cablevision and Invidi will test the vendor’s addressable advertising product while also “exploring a potential business relationship.”
As part of the settlement, neither side admitted any liability for the claims and counterclaims of the lawsuit.
Invidi sued Cablevision as well as competitive targeted-ad vendor Visible World in May 2011, alleging they were infringing on the Invidi-owned U.S. Patent No. 5,661,516 titled "System and Method for Selectively Distributing Commercial Messages over a Communications Network.” The patent describes household targeting and addressing advertisements to a subscriber terminal based on household data associated with the terminal.
Invidi and Visible World have not announced a settlement.
Invidi said its targeted advertising solution is currently deployed with DirecTV, Dish Network, Verizon FiOS TV, and Cogeco Cable, covering more than 62 million homes. Visible World’s announced distribution partners include Cablevision, Bright House Networks, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, Suddenlink Communications and Time Warner Cable.
