ION Cuts New DirecTV HD Deal

Channel's East-West Feeds Go To High Def In Longterm Pact

ION Media Networks said it has signed a new long-term partnership for ION Television’s nationwide carriage on DirecTV, the largest U.S. satellite-TV provider.

The agreement covers the distribution of ION’s flagship network, ION Television, on DirecTV’s broad platform of subscribers "for years to come," the company said. ION will now be offered in high-definition format on DirecTV (an upgrade from standard definition) and will remain available to subscribers nationwide through East and West Coast time zone feeds. Other terms were not disclosed.

"We are pleased to have expanded our long-standing relationship with DirecTV that dates back to 2006, when ION Television was formed," Brandon Burgess, chairman and CEO of ION Media Networks, said in a release. "This groundbreaking agreement is consistent with our strategy of offering a great value proposition for consumers in partnership with our distributors. We look forward to growing with DIRECTV and its customer base for years to come."
