ESPN will launch new 24-hour Spanish-language sports network ESPN Deportes Jan. 7, the network said Monday.
ESPN Deportes will showcase more than 200 live events in its first year, featuring the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the UEFA Champions League (soccer), the Wimbledon Championships (tennis), the French Open (tennis) and boxing.
The network will also offer a variety of sports-news and information shows.
Anchored by its Spanish-language SportsCenter, the roster of programs will also include Fuera de Juego, a roundtable discussion of the world of soccer; Perfiles, which offers revealing interviews with Latin American sports stars; Goles de España, a Spanish soccer analysis and highlight show; and NFL Semanal and RPM Semanal, which will offer weekly insights into the NFL and the world of auto racing, respectively.
The network will debut at 8 p.m. EST with Somos ESPN Deportes, a show that will preview key programming and feature an array of Latino sports stars, including Eduardo Najera of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, Bernie Williams of MLB’s New York Yankees and race-car driver Adrian Fernandez.
That show will be followed by SportsCenter at 8:30 p.m., then by the NBA’s Golden State Warriors at the Mavericks at 9 p.m.
