Jeff Baumgartner Joins 'MCN’

NEW YORK — Multichannel News is pleased to announce that Jeff Baumgartner has joined the editorial staff as technology editor.

“Jeff knows this industry cold — he’s a great writer and a smart reporter,” Multichannel News editor in chief Mark Robichaux said. “I’m confident he’ll be setting the agenda for news on this beat. We’re lucky to have him.”

For Baumgartner, who’s been site editor at Light Reading Cable since 2007, the move marks a return to the Multichannel News fold. Before joining Light Reading, where he covered cable technology and engineering trends, Baumgartner was editor in chief of CED magazine, then a sister publication to Multichannel News. Before that, he was broadband editor at MCN in the 2000-01 time frame. His new position at the magazine will cover a range of technology genres, from broadband and telecommunications to emerging over-the-top platforms. Baumgartner’s work will appear across all MCN platforms, including the weekly print magazine, multichannel.com and the brand’s events.

“We are genuinely thrilled that Jeff has agreed to join the best team of reporters covering the cable-TV industry,” Multichannel News publisher Louis Hillelson said. “He knows that technology drives everything in this business. He’s perfect for this position.”

Baumgartner, who replaces Todd Spangler, begins April 8 and can be reached at jbaumgartner@nbmedia.com.
