Jungo Sells Gateway Middleware To Portugal's TVCabo

NDS subsidiary Jungo announced that Portugal's ZON TVCabo has chosen a suite of Jungo's broadband software solutions to support the operator's residential and business customers.

ZON TVCabo will use Jungo's OpenRG and OpenSMB DOCSIS 3.0 gateway middleware for its new home and small office gateways. The manufacturer of the actual gateway devices is Taiwan-based Hitron Technologies.

Using Jungo technology, the gateways will provide integrated broadband access, 802.11n wireless, IP telephony, print and file sharing and media sharing without the need for additional devices.

Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed. Jungo CEO Eran Rom said TVCabo will use his company's middleware in "hundreds of thousands" of gateways under the agreement.

The operator also bought the available Jungo's Support Cost Reduction offering for cable operators, which uses an agent in the gateway to identify problems in the home network, and then activate a "self-healing" mechanism or provide troubleshooting guidance to subscribers as needed.

ZON Multimedia, TVCabo's parent company, has more than 1.5 million TV, 540,000 broadband and 400,000 fixed-line customers.

NDS announced in December 2006 it would acquire Jungo. http://www.multichannel.com/article/82100-NDS_Buys_Home_Gateway_Software... The company paid $91.1 million for Jungo including acquisition-related costs.
