Ailes Hedges on Timing For Fox Business Launch
New York — Fox News Channel chairman and CEO Roger Ailes may be hedging his bets about the timing of a proposed Fox business-news channel launch.
According to published reports, Ailes, speaking at a Newhouse School media breakfast here Thursday, said he would like for the service to bow this year, but he won’t rush its launch. “You probably need to figure out how you’re going to get to 40 million homes in the right places in three years,” he said.
In earlier financial presentations, News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch and chief operating officer Peter Chernin have spoken about the business channel bowing late this year, contingent upon netting necessary distribution agreements.
Fox News Will Offer Money Advice to Wal-Mart
New York — In a pact secured through Premier Retail Networks, Inc., Fox News Channel will now provide a monthly series of financial tips for the viewers of Wal-Mart Television Network and Sam’s Club TV. Previously, Fox News had supplied breaking-news segments in the Wal-Mart outlets.
The branding gambit calls for Fox News to supply 2,620 Wal-Mart stores with personal and seasonal financial tips for its in-store network, while 540 Sam’s outlets will air advice segments aimed at the warehouse retailer’s small-business members.
'Great Outdoor Games’ Going to Disney World
Lake Buena Vista, Fla. — Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex here will be home to ESPN’s Great Outdoor Games from July 7 to July 10. Network officials said coverage will air on July 13 to July 17 on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC Sports, network officials said.
