Kaitz to Receive Foundation Honors

Stepping away from its customary nod to cable operators, the Walter Kaitz Foundation announced Tuesday that it will honor founder Spencer Kaitz during its annual fund-raising dinner Sept. 22.

A longtime California Cable and Telecommunications Association executive, Kaitz -- son of the group's namesake, Walter Kaitz -- founded the organization 21 years ago in an effort to help place minority executives into top management positions within the industry.

The announcement marks a departure from previous years in which Kaitz honorees were mostly picked from the MSO-executive ranks.

Glenn Britt, chairman and CEO of Time Warner Cable and chairman of the board of the Kaitz Foundation, and Matthew Blank, chairman and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc., will serve as co-chairs for the dinner, which will be managed by Debbie A. Smith, executive director of the Kaitz Foundation.

"Since the inception of the Kaitz Foundation more than two decades ago, Spencer has been passionate about increasing diversity in the cable and telecommunications industry," Britt and Blank said in a joint statement.

"We're pleased to recognize his many years of unwavering leadership on industry diversity,” they added. “It's particularly fitting that we honor Spencer on the occasion of his retirement from the Kaitz Foundation board of trustees, as well as president and general counsel of the [CCTA].”
