Michael Kay has signed a contract renewal to remain the lead play-by-play man for New York Yankees coverage on YES.
Kay, who has earned 19 Emmy nominations and three statuettes, has been with YES since its inception in 2002.
In addition to continuing to call Bronx Bombers’ ballgames, Kay will remain as the host of YES’s Emmy-winning interview show CenterStage, its YESterdays series, plus other shows and specials on the nation’s largest regional sports network.
“We are pleased that Michael will continue to be the voice of the Yankees on YES while also hosting our signature CenterStage interview show,” said John Filippelli, president of production and programming at the YES, in a statement. “New Yorkers have long identified him with the Yankees and as a sports authority in general, and he is considered one of the best play-by-play men in baseball. His knowledge of the game and his ability to articulate in a clear, accurate and succinct manner make him an invaluable member of the YES team.”
In addition to YES, Kay has hosted the mid-day show on ESPN Radio 1050 in New York since the station’s debut in 2001. He also handled play-by-play duties for the ESPN Radio Network during the 2008 American League Divisional Series, and has been a frequent contributor to ESPN's Emmy Award-winning Sports Reporters television show on Sunday mornings.
