King Names Broadcast Team for PPV-Boxing Event

A diverse list of boxing analysts and champions, radio talk-show hosts and political mavens will serve as on-air reporting talent for Home Box Office Pay-Per-View’s Dec. 13 five-fight PPV-boxing card.

The Don King-promoted event will feature veteran boxing play-by-play men Barry Tompkins and Col. Bob Sheridan, with heavyweight champion Chris Byrd and former light-heavyweight champion and cruiserweight champion Virgil Hill providing on-air analysis.

Nationally syndicated radio hosts Tom Joyner and Tavis Smiley will serve as roving reporters, while political consultant Jim Carville will serve as an analyst with Sheridan.

New York Sun

columnist and ESPN New York radio host Wally Matthews will also be part of the broadcast team, according to King.

CBS broadcaster Jim Hill will host the broadcast with Boston Globe writer and columnist Ron Borges.

The fight card includes a Bernard Hopkins-William Joppy middleweight-unification bout; a Ricardo Mayorga-Cory Spinks welterweight-unification bout; a Hasim Rahman- John Ruiz heavyweight-elimination bout; a Zab Judah-Jaime Rangel junior-welterweight bout; and an Alejandro Garcia-Travis Simms super-welterweight-championship bout.

King also said Rainbow DBS-owned Voom will have exclusive HDTV rights to the event, which will retail at a suggested price of $44.95.
