Lassie Comes Home to TV Land

Celebrating the famous canine’s golden TV anniversary, TV Land will host an all-day Lassie marathon April 24.

The vintage TV network will devote 14 hours to the renowned collie, airing 28 episodes from the 691 installments that aired on broadcast (CBS from 1954-71) and in first-run syndication (1971-74).

TV Land is also unleashing a sweepstakes behind the marathon. Users can enter on the network’s Web site (www.tvland.com) to win a trip for two, along with a pet, to Los Angeles to spend a day with Lassie and her trainer.

Additionally, the winner and their pet will receive a visit with Lassie's celebrity pet vet, Dr. Jeff Werber, who treats pooches owned by the likes of Britney Spears, Fred Durst, Rod Stewart and Mark Wahlberg, among others, according to network officials.

A total of 100 viewers will also win the Lassie: 50th TV Anniversary Collector's Edition DVD box set. And TV Land Online will feature an original interview with Lassie's “Timmy,” Jon Provost.

For those who love the star of book, film, radio and small screen, the marathon will mark a one-day opportunity: TV Land does not plan to air additional episodes, according to a spokeswoman. In the past, sister MTV Networks service Nick at Nite has aired Lassie episodes.
