Latin Emmy Awards on Tap

Aiming for a late-2003 premiere, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is developing an annual Latin Emmy Awards ceremony for Spanish-language cable and broadcast programming.

At press time, NATAS president Peter Price told Multichannel News the organization's board had approved the project, but it was awaiting a final go-ahead from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which handles the primetime Emmy Awards.

Both groups would co-produce the Latin Emmys, and Telemundo Communications Group Inc. has already expressed interest in running the show in primetime on a rotating basis with Univision Communications Inc., Price said.
