Layoffs, Reorg Hit Harmonic

Harmonic Inc. is consolidating two operating groups, plus its manufacturing division, under Patrick Harshman -- a move that will cost the company $1 million-$1.2 million in severance payments for the 40 employees it is laying off as a result of the consolidation.

Harshman, current president of the Convergent Systems division, was named company executive vice president and will now also oversee the Broadband Access Networks division and the company’s manufacturing operations. The changes are effective Jan. 1.

“The combining product development, marketing and manufacturing operations under Patrick's leadership will enable Harmonic to provide an even wider range of compelling system solutions for broadband operators,” Harmonic chairman, president and CEO Anthony Ley said in a statement.
