Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach will make his game analyst debut for CBS College Sports Network on Saturday.
Leach, teaming with play-by-play man Roger Twibell, will call CBS College's coverage of North Carolina State visiting UCF at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
The contest is the network's tripleheader nightcap: Hawaii visits Army at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y., where Dave Ryan teams with Jason Sehorn on the telecast, followed by George Southern traveling to play Navy in Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. There, Craig Bolerjack and Randy Cross are on the mic as CBS College kicks off its Armed Forces telecasts for the 2010 season.
Leach gives UCF a slight edge against the Wolfpack because of its experience in the trenches.
"Both teams have a lot to prove. UCF has a chance to win Conference USA and make some noise, while NC State is looking to get over the hump in the ACC. A match-up to watch is whether UCF defensive end Bruce Miller can pressure and catch up with NC State quarterback Russell Wilson," he said. "I tend to focus on the offensive and defensive lines, which are the keys to all games and which goes understated. The linemen are the hardest guys to replace, not the skill guys. With their returning players, UCF looks to be stronger along the lines."
Leach has adopted somewhat different approach in his preparation for his first college telecast.
"It's uncharted territory for me and I'm excited about it. I've found it's a fine line between preparing well and clouding your mind. I'm on a great team and Roger Twibell is the perfect person to guide me through this," he said. "Now that I'm in this position, I watch games a bit different. It's shifted from Xs and Os heavy, to when I'm watching a play, it's about what is the analyst going to say, what will I say. I've been dress rehearsing that part of it."
