Lifetime Television is revving up its efforts against "drive through mastectomies."
The network said Thursday that a petition on its Web site (www.lifetimetv.com) urging Congress to protect women from being forced out of the hospital only hours after breast-cancer surgery has collected 7.5 million signatures.
The network’s effort is in partnership with lawmakers such as Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.); Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.); leading breast-cancer-advocacy and medical organizations; physicians; advocates; and survivors from across the nation.
Landrieu and DeLauro have sponsored legislation in their respective chambers to ban drive-through mastectomies.
