Lifetime Television will hold its annual “Stop Breast Cancer for Life” Hero Celebration Thursday at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.
The gala -- part of the 11th anniversary of the network’s breast-cancer-advocacy and public-awareness campaign, “Our Lifetime Commitment: Stop Breast Cancer for Life” -- will be followed by the taping of WomenRock!: Our Journey with Melissa Etheridge.
Participants in the Hero Celebration will include: actress and director Rosanna Arquette, honoring the memory of her mother; Desperate Housewives star Ricardo Antonio Chavira, honoring the memory of his mother; Ann Curry, co-anchor of Dateline NBC and news anchor on the “Peacock Network’s” Today, honoring the survivorship of her sister; andEtheridge, survivor and two-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, honoring survivors selected by Stop Breast Cancer for Life nonprofit partner groups.
WomenRock!: Our Journey with Melissa Etheridge will air on Lifetime Oct. 18at 11 p.m. (EST/PST).
The network will also present a special episode of original one-hour drama Strong Medicine focusing on “drive-through” mastectomies Sunday, Oct. 9 at 9 p.m.; an original Intimate Portrait profile of Curry Oct. 9 at 11 p.m., in which she will discuss her sister’s breast cancer; and original public-service announcements, motivational interstitials and live screen crawls highlighting important facts and statistics.
“Today, one in seven women will develop breast cancer in her life -- a risk that, 30 years ago, was one in 11,” Lifetime Entertainment Services executive vice president of public affairs Meredith Wagner said in a prepared statement. “It is critical that we encourage women to move beyond fear and misinformation and make sure that they use the tools of early detection.”
