After a three-year run Susanne Daniels, president of entertainment for Lifetime Networks, has tendered her resignation, network officials said Wednesday.
Daniels, who couldn’t be reached for comment, has agreed to stay in her position until she identifies a successor and will remain with Lifetime in a consulting role, the company said in a press release. She reportedly is leaving to spend more time with her family.
Daniels, who joined Lifetime in August 2005, has been responsible for all programming on Lifetime Television and Lifetime Movie Network, the two highest-rated women’s networks, and Lifetime Real Women. A year ago, she brought Lifetime’s biggest hit show ever to the network, ArmyWives.
“Susanne is one of the most outstanding executives with whom I have ever worked,” Andrea Wong, Lifetime Networks president and CEO, said in a prepared statement.
Then in a memo to Lifetime’s staff, Wong wrote, “It is no secret that our collaboration has been one of the highlights of my career…So when Susanne came to me recently to share her decision to resign her current position at Lifetime to spend more time with her family, which includes three fantastic children, I was heartbroken.”
“It’s not easy giving up working on a daily basis with the dynamic and talented team with whom Andrea and I collaborate,” Daniels said in a prepared statement. “But I look forward to contributing to these networks on the move in my new capacity as a very engaged and passionate consultant.”
In addition to the success with Army Wives, on Daniels’ watch Lifetime lured Project Runway away from Bravo—a matter that is in litigation—and she won success with Carson Kressley’s Howto Look Good Naked.
In 1994, at the age of 29, Daniels became one of the highest-ranking television executives in the business when she was named Head of Primetime Series for The WB Television Network, and given responsibility for every aspect of development and production for all primetime programs.
When she came to Lifetime, Daniels essentially replaced Barbara Fisher.
