Lifetime Sends Congress 40,000 Signatures

Lifetime Television said it would deliver 40,000 signatures Wednesday from an
online petition urging Congress to take action to put more rapists in jail.

Lifetime launched the petition in late March, once the Debbie Smith Act was
introduced in the Senate. The act calls for legislation to ensure that DNA
evidence is analyzed in a timely manner, which could help to convict rapists
more quickly, before they have a chance to attack again.

The online-petition initiative is part of the network's ongoing 'Stop
Violence Against Women' campaign.

The Debbie Smith Act was named after a Virginia woman whose rape kit was not
analyzed for six years.
