Lifetime Taps Whoopi Goldberg To Produce, Star In Tele-Movie

Actress/comedian Whoopi Goldberg will produce and star in a new Lifetime original movie based on a best seller by author Terry McMillan.

The movie, A Day Late and a Dollar Short, stars Goldberg as an asthma-afflicted matriarch who sets out to fix her fractured family before dying, said network officials. Goldberg previously served as executive producer of Lifetime drama series Strong Medicine in the mid 2000s as well as the 2001 original movie What Makes a Family.

“Terry McMillan is one of America’s most beloved writers and A Day Late and a Dollar Short combines her signature emotional storytelling with the complex characters viewers identify with and love,” said Rob Sharenow, executive vice president and general manager of Lifetime. “We are thrilled to be working again with Whoopi Goldberg, who will be emptying her enormous talents both in front of and behind the camera.”
