New Orleans -- Mag Rack, Rainbow Media Holdings Inc.'s video-on-demand
service, said Sunday that it signed a long-term distribution agreement with
Insight Communications Co. Inc., the No. 9 U.S. MSO.
Insight will provide Mag Rack to all of its digital, VOD-enabled subscribers
beginning this summer.
It will be the first MSO to launch Mag Rack nationally, giving its customers
the only service designed for and exclusively available via VOD. Until now, only
Rainbow parent Cablevision Systems Corp. has offered Mag Rack.
As part of the deal, Mag RackVOD programming will be rolled out
across Insight's entire digital-subscriber base, which includes systems in
Lexington, Covington and Louisville, Ky.; Bloomington, Lafayette and Evansville,
Ind.; Columbus, Ohio; and Champaign and Rockford, Ill.
A portfolio of 25 video magazines will be packaged as a value-added feature
of Insight's advanced digital service. Special-interest programming is available
on subjects ranging from motorcycles to Shakespeare, wine to weddings.
'Insight is committed to providing our customers with the best in on-demand
content -- what they want, when they want it,' Insight CEO Michael Willner said
in a prepared statement.
'To that end, we believe there is tremendous value in Rainbow Media's Mag
Rack,' he added. 'Not only is Mag Rack completely unique from anything else on
television, but the range and depth of the programming clearly demonstrates the
value and potential of VOD.'
Mag Rack also offers cross-promotional capabilities through marketing
arrangements with Primedia Inc. and American Express
