Maiella Named SVP Communications at AMC

AMC Networks said Wednesday that it has appointed James Maiella senior vice president, corporate communications.  He will report to Ellen Kroner, executive vice president, communications and marketing.

Maiella will oversee business and trade media relations for AMC, IFC, WE tv and IFC Films.  He will work closely with AMC Networks’ other senior vice president of corporate communications, Georgia Juvelis, who now adds additional corporate communications and corporate marketing responsibilities to her role, while continuing to oversee business and trade media relations for Sundance Channel and AMC/Sundance Channel Global, the company’s international programming business.

Maiella comes to AMC Networks after serving for more than a decade as vice president of media relations for Cablevision Systems Corp., where he was responsible for media relations activities in support of the company’s cable operations, its suite of advanced telecommunications products and related matters.

“Jim brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new position,” said Kroner in a statement. “I’m confident that his strategic messaging expertise and solid media relationships will bring great value to AMC Networks and its brands.”

Prior to joining Cablevision in 2002, Maiella was a senior vice president with Robinson Lerer & Montgomery, a strategic communications firm.  He previously served as Director of Media Relations for RCN Corp., a competitive telecommunications provider, responsible for all internal and external communications functions.  He has served as a Congressional communications director and began his career as a journalist, writing for the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, Los Angeles Daily News and community newspapers.

Maiella earned his M.S. in Journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and his B.A in English at Lafayette College.  He serves on the executive committee of the Association of Cable Communicators as the immediate past president of the organization.

He will begin at AMC Networks next month.
