The Florida Marlins extended their lead to three games over the Philadelphia
Phillies in Major League Baseball’s National League Wild Card race Wednesday
night and set a team ratings record for Fox Sports Net Florida in the
process.

The telecast smacked an 8.6 rating within the Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Fla.,
DMA, reaching some 133,300 households. That topped an 8.1 rating for a
Marlins-Atlanta Braves Aug. 11, 1997, when 112,000 households tuned in during
the club’s drive to the playoffs and World Series title that year.

As the Marlins have made their move to the 2003 postseason, their ratings on
FSN Florida have picked up. According to network officials, the club’s games in
April averaged a 2.3 rating, a 2.5 in May and a 3.5 and 3.9 in June and July,
respectively.

Last month, Marlins games averaged a 4.4, while September contests to date
are averaging a 4.8. That compares with a 1.7 for the same month a year
ago.
