Martin to Miss NAB Las Vegas Show

Federal Communications Commission chairman Kevin Martin won’t be attending next week’s National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas, FCC and broadcasting officials confirmed Friday.

Martin dropped out in order to prepare to testify on Capitol Hill next Tuesday at a hearing that has not been officially announced, the officials said.

Martin was to address the annual NAB confab next Wednesday, but the time and location hadn’t been announced. He was expected to discuss his plan that would allow local TV stations to assert digital and analog carriage on cable systems after Feb. 17, 2009, when analog-TV signals by law must be turned off.
