May Day for History Channel en Español

The History Channel is launching a Spanish-language network in May -- a service that will highlight both world and Latin American history -- officials said Monday.

The History Channel en Español will include an array of documentary specials and series, including Roots of America, a program being packaged by The History Channel Latin America.

"Our ventures in the Latin American market have powerfully demonstrated to us that our programming has wide appeal to a Spanish-speaking audience in Central and South America," History Channel general manager Dan Davids said in a prepared statement.

"With this new network launch in the United States, we look to meet a need for a similar audience in the U.S.," he added.
