McCain Cable Hearing Postponed

The Senate Commerce Committee’s hearing on cable rates, scheduled for Thursday, was canceled, the committee said in a brief statement, adding that a new date would be announced as soon as possible.

Witnesses were to have included Cox Communications Inc. CEO Jim Robbins, ESPN president George Bodenheimer, National Cable & Telecommunications Association president Robert Sachs, Consumers Union director Gene Kimmelman and Knology Inc. president and CEO Rodger Johnson.

Also slated to testify was General Accounting Office official Mark Goldstein. Commerce chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) had requested a recently released GAO report on cable rates that was to be a focus of the hearing.
