McCain, FCC Set Media Dates

Senate Commerce Committee chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) is planning a series
of hearings on media-ownership patterns, beginning Jan. 30 with the local radio

Meanwhile, Federal Communications Commission chairman Michael Powell said the
agency would sponsor a public meeting on media ownership Feb. 27 in Richmond,
Va., although a location has not been selected.

The FCC is planning to adopt new broadcast-ownership rules later this year in
response to court decisions that ordered the agency to do a better job of
justifying rules it intended to retain.
